ART AFFAIR

Combining the poetry of art with the functionality of high-design furniture, Firetti Contemporary Gallery collaborates with CB2 to establish a platform of transformative art that constructs inviting, layered interiors, all while embracing sustainability. Together, we craft spaces that inspire and endure.

 

Through this collaboration, Firetti Contemporary introduces two artists, Sawsan Al Bahar and Laura Lappi, who will be featured at CB2.

 

Sawsan Al Bahar presents a site-specific installation titled “Untitled Study for the Fall,” which highlights the constant change and renewal that occur within nature. Through image mapping, Sawsan transforms a collection of photos of trodden tree leaves to create the work in 3D-printed recycled wood. Each leaf is imprinted with traces and layers of its environment, embedded with visual data that charts the season through moments of sunshine, drops of rain, and freckles of dust. Wood, a living, breathing material that ages and changes, finds new expression. Al Bahar has chosen the species of maidenhair, misbelief, and maple trees, known for their compelling histories of migration, adaptation, and endurance. Al Bahar encourages viewers to reflect on these forms of durational change and to engage with the work, becoming a part of it.

 

Laura Lappi brings forth her signature wooden wall sculptures created using the ancient Japanese technique of Yakisugi, where she uses fire to preserve and finish wood, resulting in a unique and unpredictable final outcome. Her sculptures, made mainly from recycled wood, explore the relationship between architecture, spatial environments, and the human mind, highlighting the alienation from nature and how it can manifest as a sense of loss and abandonment. Lappi raises important questions about the role of fine art in understanding the roots of our cultural and physical disconnection from nature and how it can be addressed through art.

 

This collaboration will also give rise to an array of talks encompassing art, furniture, and sustainability. The roster of distinguished speakers features artist Sawsan Al Bahar and CEO and Founder of Firetti Contemporary, Mara Firetti.  

 

Both talks will take place at CB2, Mall of The Emirates.
