Firetti Contemporary is sponsoring an Artificial Coral Reef choosing to support ocean reforestation in collaboration with Azraq.
Azraq, Arabic for Blue, is a non-profit marine conservation organisation registered with the Community Development Authority in the UAE accredited by the UNEP.
Their mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.
The artificial reef structure will be laid in Dibba Al-Fujairah during the month of July and contribute to strengthening the marine ecosystem leaving an underwater legacy for years to come.
Coral reefs are nature's water filtration system, and act as a nursery for over 25% of marine species. The UAE is home to 34 hard coral species alone but are subject to higher pressures from urban and industrial development such as dredging and oil exploration activities.
