Through the Lens of 'I' is a curated exhibition featuring the works of Sawsan Al Bahar, Salmah Al Mansoori, and Wolfgang Stiller. Each artist explores profound themes of memory, identity, and human experience through their unique artistic expressions.
Salmah Al Mansoori, rooted in Abu Dhabi, navigates the intersections of place and memory through her multidisciplinary practice. Her work, ranging from site-specific installations to paintings and sculptures, reflects her belief in physical locales as repositories of thoughts, emotions, and memories. By exploring her hometown, Ghayathi, and the expansive landscapes of the UAE, Al Mansoori contemplates the construction of cultural heritage and personal identity.
Wolfgang Stiller's artistic journey spans four decades, blending historical events with global influences. His installations and sculptures balance gravity with whimsy, addressing societal issues with depth. The iconic "Matchstickmen" series delves into burnout syndrome and human psychology, while his explorations of the human head symbolize the complexity of human experience.
Sawsan Al Bahar investigates how history subtly shapes personal narratives in the region, focusing on her own story and the myth of home. Using graphite on paper, digital scans, and text, her intense draftsmanship forms the basis of her work. She employs digital scanning to access and depict an absent homeland, creating meticulous drawings that are poetic entanglements at the crossroads of past and future. Her work evokes an intimate past image, highlighting the tension between the real and the fabricated.
Together, these artists offer perspectives on how memory and identity shape the human experience, inviting viewers to reflect on their own narratives Through the lens of 'I'.
